Three men who were arrested when they went to retrieve cocaine hidden in a container truck which had come off a ferry in Ringaskiddy last year have each been jailed for eight years

39 year old Gentjan Dodaj  and his 30 year-old brother, Donatel Dodaj  with an address at Paradise Row, Athlone, Co Westmeath, and 23 year old Daniel Afedoaei  of Slí an Aifreann, Athlone, appeared in court today for sentencing

The court heard that Gentjan Dodaj who has no previous convictions got involved in the scheme in a bid to pay off bills

He recruited his younger brother Donatel who owed €60,0000 to a loan shark in his native country of Albania while Daniel Afedoaei had a debt of €50,000 arising out of a money laundering conviction

The men were under surveillance when they were observed on August 5th removing panels from a container where bags of cocaine were hidden

They were arrested a short time later and the drugs weighing 60kg, worth €4.2 million were seized

The men all made admissions about their roles in the operation and today they were jailed for eight years each
