The first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in two years is expected to attract thousands of people to the city centre on Thursday.

RedFM is proud media partner to the event and RedFM Breakfast's Rob Heffernan will be MC’ing on the day.

Around 2,500 people will be taking part in the parade, which is starting on the South Mall and will make its way along Grand Parade, Patrick Street and Merchants Quay.

People are being asked to plan their journeys and to use public transport where possible as several roads will be closed on the day.

Speaking to RedFM News, events manager with the City Council Trish Murphy outlines the theme for this years parade:

"The theme for this year's parade is heroes; ordinary people doing extraordinary things, which I think is really apt. It is the return of the first parade since 2019 and it is really an acknowledgement and reflection of the incredible work done by the people in our community and in our lives during the last two years of Covid."
