Micheál Martin was responding to a question from Cork TD Mick Barry in the Dáil this evening who accused the government as having a 'desperate' record on the issue.

Deputy Barry is taking part in a demonstration by the group Rosa in the city on Thursday to mark International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence.

The march will leave Blackpool village at 6pm and finish in the city centre...

The group are calling for an end to victim blaming and an immediate trebling of all domestic violence and survivors’ services.

Speaking in the Dáil, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the government is open to requests for assistance:

"Any requests come to us from either the NGO sector or the local authority in partnership with the NGO sector will be positively responded to. And that's always been the case. Every effort has to be made in an integrated way across all departments, across every forum, to education as well in terms of how we inculcate and nurture proper respect in our schools, right throughout our society."
