The alarm was raised by a concerned local, which prompted a crew of 9 volunteers on the Trent Class All Weather Lifeboat and the Stations A16 Inshore Lifeboat to arrive within minutes.

After a search from Burren Pier to Coolmain Strand, the windsurfer was located safe and sound.

The Courtmacsherry RNLI are using the callout as a reminder for people to check the weather forecast and tide times ahead of taking to the water, and to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard in the case of an emergency.
