A teenager has been remanded in custody after he was charged with assault causing harm in Carrigaline on the 28th December.

29-year-old Matthew O'Neill remains in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital - after he was assaulted on the road outside his home, in the quiet Glenwood Estate in Carrigaline, at around half-past-five on Wednesday evening.

Paramedics worked to stabilise him at the scene before rushing him by ambulance to CUH, where he underwent emergency surgery for serious head injuries sustained in the attack.

"18-year-old Jordan Deasy of Ravensdale, Heron's Wood, Carrigaline was charged with assault causing harm, when he was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court, this afternoon.

Det Garda Declan Healy of Carrigaline Garda Station said that the Gardaí objected to bail on a number of grounds, including: the seriousness of the charge, the strength of the evidence linking Deasy to the charge, and because they feared he would abscond if he were granted bail.

Det Garda Healy stated that they found Deasy hiding in a house in Crosshaven and that he had destroyed his phone and SIM card to avoid being traced by Gardaí.

Defence solicitor, Dyane Hallahan said her client was willing to abide by a number of bail conditions, but Det Garda Healy said no conditions would be satisfactory.

He said that Gardaí were concerned by the possibility Deasy could commit further serious offences.

Judge John King remanded the 18-year-old in custody to appear at Cork District Court by video link on the 5th January.

Another teenager, 19-year-old Ricardo Hoey of Ardcarrig, Carrigaline has been remanded on bail after he was charged on Friday with assault causing harm in the same incident.
