The Chief Medical Officer says a small number of cases of the new delta variant have been detected in Ireland.

Tony Holohan says it’s not something health officials are raising alarm about at the moment.

Immunologist Luke O’Neill says this strain is slightly more transmissible.

"Delta+ it's called AY42, it's slightly more transmissible 8/9/10% , maybe, but they're still examining. Not a huge difference you see so there do seem to be other variants out there but they're not quite different to Delta so far."
