SIPTU have written to Stryker to request an urgent meeting following yesterday's incident at their facility in Carrigtwohill

Two men were injured in an explosion while working on the roof of the company's Anngrove building and one of the men remains in a critical condition on life support at CUH after suffering severe burns.

In a statement to the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, the family of the 41 year old say he was in surgery until late last night and they are keeping vigil at the hospital.

They have described him as a kind, mild mannered family man with a loving wife, baby, young child and stepson who are his world.

SIPTU say their members at Stryker have previously raised health and safety concerns and say they have been seeking to engagement with management for several years to ensure the safest possible environment for all workers at the company's three sites in Cork.

Speaking to RedFM News, Neil McGowan from SIPTU says the company has not met with them to discuss the unions concerns:
