Supporters of the Cork Rose were left surprised after signs wishing her good luck in her hometown of Ballincollig were removed by the City Council.

Kate Shaughnessy is heading to Kerry this weekend for the Rose of Tralee Festival and plaques and signs were erected around the town to support her.

Cork City Council said the signs were removed as “they were erected without prior authorisation and placed at roundabouts and junctions which is distracting for motorists”.

They have been stored at the depot in Innishmore and can be collected by the relevant groups and re-erected at locations authorised by the Ballincollig Area Office.”

Speaking to RedFM News, local Councillor Colm Kelleher says the signs can go up in a more suitable place to support the Cork Rose.

“I have spoken with to the relevant parties on the signs and the majority of them have now been collected,” he said.

“We’re quite looking forward to seeing the signs back up around Ballincollig and supporting areas to support our Rose.”
