School secretaries are prepared to go on strike.
That's the message from The Munster Branch of Fórsa are asking for equal pay for Irish school secretaries, who are currently required to sign on for unemployment benefits during the summer months.
The union say that they are not recognised as public servants and do not get paid for sick days.
Speaking to RedFM News, representative of the Munster Branch of Fórsa and school secretary of Watergrasshill National School, Noreen O'Callaghan, says while they called off their strike last year, they are once again prepared to picket.
"We were all ready to go, that bus was booked the bottles of water were booked, we had money for lunches for the people who were going on the bus from Cork, we were well supported.
"And then at the last minute before we got to go, we had our placards ready but by God, we weren't stupid enough to throw away the placards.
"We've kept them and they'll be dusted off and we will be ready to go on strike again.
"We don't really want to go on strike, but we're prepared to go on strike."
