The budget airline made the call yesterday as it announced its base at Shannon will reopen in April.

The owner of Cork and Dublin Airports- DAA- is proposing the airports offer discounts to airlines from next summer.

Cork Airport is also proposing a separate discount scheme to drive recovery.

Ryanair says the government needs to secure connectivity with Europe now to avoid the risk of losing it to another country where they say "governments, regions and airports are actively engaged in securing the vital infrastructure and... the employment it will create".

Around 80 staff lost their jobs when the Cork base closed for the winter.
