Road fatalities in Cork are at their lowest level in years following an "appalling year of carnage" on the road last year.
19 people lost their lives on Cork roads in 2019 and 24 were killed last year despite a significant drop in the amount of traffic on the roads due to lockdown.
8 people have been killed in the city and county since the start of this year and the RSA is asking people to do all they can to make the roads as safe as possible during Christmas and into the New Year
128 people have been killed on Irish roads since the start of the year- a decrease of 17 fatalities compared to the same time last year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority is urging Cork road users to take care and slow down:
"I have to say that, again whil,e one that is one to many. We've had eight fatalities on Cork roads in 2021. That was the kind of response, we really needed it shows a dramatic drop in road deaths but of course, we're not at the end of the year yet. And my message would be, we don't want any more people to suffer the heartache of losing a loved one on the roads. We don't want any more people being added to that toll.
