A protest is being held on the northside of the city this afternoon
to highlight the issue of vacant local authority houses.
The demonstration will take place at 2.30pm at the grotto at Goldsmith's Avenue close to Rathmore Park.
Cork TD Mick Barry has organised today's protest and says there are 20 vacant local authority homes at Roche's Buildings and Sutton's Buildings
Speaking to RedFM News, Deputy Barry says the turnaround time for a local authority house is 63 weeks:
RedFM News has contacted the City Council for a statement:
"There could be as many as 5000 vacant houses in the state. there is likely more than 400 in Cork just waiting the the latest stats and in this area here a Roche's, buildings and Sutton's buildings, There is approximately 20 vacant local authority houses. So in the middle of the biggest housing crisis in the history of the state, that's completely unacceptable. If there's issues with finance from central Government, we're happy to stand alongside them to demand extra funding."
