Plans to build a BusConnects bridge through an area of woodland on the Southside of Cork city have been scrapped.

The National Transport Authority will no longer be pursuing the proposal to build the Mangala Bridge as part of plans to build a sustainable transport corridor between Kinsale Road and Douglas.

Initial proposals suggested that a road be built through the Mangala Woods, however that was met with opposition from locals, with numerous submissions from the public objecting to the plans.

The Managala Bridge would have connected the Grange Road to the Carrigaline Road, however the NTA have confirmed it will now not be included in revised proposals.

Plans for 12 Sustainable Transport Corridors in the City were announced this year, with the NTA receiving almost 3,000 submissions from the public.
