One in ten jobs were in the tourism and hospitality sector in Cork prior to the pandemic

That statistic was revealed at an event for tourism stakeholders hosted by Visit Cork at Fota Island Hotel and Resort.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin told todays event that the Government fully supports Visit Cork’s determination to rebuild the industry.

Delegates heard that one in ten jobs were in the tourism and hospitality sector in Cork before the pandemic, with 22 cents from every euro spent going back into the exchequer.

The tourism and hospitality industry, supported an estimated 22,500 jobs in Cork before the pandemic with plans now underway in the sector to drive job creation, economic development, and to help the industry to get back to those levels in the coming years.

Almost 200 people attended the Visit Cork Tourism Industry Day, from accommodation providers to festival and event organisations.
