A group are holding a rally in Fermoy tomorrow afternoon to show their solidarity with refugees who have been forced to leave their home countries.

Fermoy and Mallow Against Racism says Fermoy has welcomed refugees and will continue to welcome them following a protest by another group outside St Joseph's Convent in the town on Tuesday evening.

Members of Fermoy and Mallow Against Racism will gather around a "Refugee's Welcome" banner outside the Protestant Church in the town at midday tomorrow.

Maggie Blackley and her husband Sandy have taken in two Ukrainian mothers and their children at their home in Fermoy.

Speaking to RedFM News, Maggie explains why the group are holding the rally tomorrow:

"There are a small number of people who basically we know do travel the country protesting against this sort of attitude, and they came to Fermoy and they made quite a lot of noise. But in fact, there was very little support from the people of Fermoy. We want to give all of us a chance to just stand together under a banner of 'we welcome the people who come to us for refuge'."
