There were nearly 850 applications, within 48 hours, for 32 homes in a cost-rental scheme in Glanmire.
Cost rental is not-for-profit housing where the rent you pay covers the cost of the construction, management and maintenance of your new home.
The 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes at Ballinglanna, in the south-east of Glanmire village, will have rents set at at-least 25 per cent less than market value.
Rents in Ballinglanna range from €840 per month for a 1 bedroom apartment, to €1,085 per month for a 3 bedroom house.
The housing body Respond are behind the development.
They opened the application process on Tuesday.
So far, there has been an average of 26 applications per property, but people can still apply until the 21st of September.
People who do not qualify for social housing, and have a net annual income of less than €53,000 euro, are eligible for the Cost Rental Scheme.
Respond says the scheme offers "a long term, secure tenancy" to middle income households.
