Garda Press say speed vans checked over 68,000 vehicles between 7am and midday and detected 270 breaking the speed limit.

Here in Cork, one driver on the N71 at Waterfall was clocked doing 117 km/h in a 100 kilometre zone.

Another motorist in Mallow was found to be driving at 77 in a 50 zone, and a driver will get penalty points and a fine for driving at 130 kilometres per hour on the M8 at Kilworth.

16 people have lost their lives in Cork roads since the start of the year.

156 people have died on Irish roads in 2022, an increase of 28 people compared to this day in 2021.
