The National Monuments Service say they have launched an investigation after weekend reports in relation to a standing stone in Skibbereen.

It's understood two druids travelled to the West Cork town to reinstall a fallen standing stone in a farmers field.

The National Monuments Service says the vast majority of known archaeological monuments in Ireland, including standing stones, are protected under the National Monuments Acts, and anyone who wishes to carry out work at or in relation to a Recorded Monument is legally required to give two month’s written notification to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
