A second motorist is Cork was clocked travelling at 118km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the M8 Riverstown in Glanmire and these speeds have prompted them to remind drivers to increase compliance with speed limits

Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority says speeding is the main factor in road deaths here.

“If we look at the collision data it’s telling us that speed is a factor in a third of all collisions that are happening out there.

“When we look at the free speed surveys that we conduct in the RSA, this is when we go out and monitor the free speed of vehicles when they’re unimpeded on the roads, when there’s no traffic congestion, we’re finding that the majority of vehicles out there are speeding, especially on urban roads.”
