The Minister for Higher Education says students always highlight important social issues.
Students are continuing their encampment on the quad today demanding that UCC cut ties with Israeli institutions amid the war between Israel and Hamas.
UCC BDS says it's in talks with college authorities.
Speaking to RedFM News, Minister for Higher Education, Patrick O’Donovan says UCC and its students are well capable of discussing the issue:
"Students have in Trinity, UCD and UCC and other places, you know, over many, many years brought to the fore, really important social issues that have been debated by virtue of their protests for want of a better word over many generations. And I think this is just the latest iteration of that. And it's something I think that the students and UCC authorities are well capable of discussing themselves"
