29 year old Ionut Cosmin Nicholescu of Branista Village, Branista Commune, Damovita in Romania was arrested in Dublin Airport by Gardaí and appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court on December 3rd.

Nicholescu will go on trial in connection with the killing of Francis "Frankie" Dunne, from Churchfield Avenue in Knocknaheeny.

The 64 year old father of three was found dead on the grounds of an abandoned house on Boreenmanna Road on December 28th, 2019.

Frankie Dunne was last seen alive on December 27th, 2019 leaving Cork Simon's high support homeless centre on Boreenmanna Road.

Gardaí involved in the investigation travelled to Romania in the weeks after the murder to interview a man who had made the journey from Cork to the country in the days after the killing.

Today Ionut Cosmin Nicholescu was before the court having completed his period of Covid isolation.

Defence solicitor Shane Collins Daly said his client planned to make a bail application in the high court in due course.

Judge Olann Kelleher granted free legal aid and also agreed to a defence request that the book of evidence be translated into Romanian.
