A man in his 40s is due to appear in court today charged in connection with the discovery of a gun on the northside of the city.
Gardai seized the weapon in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Knocknaheeny area..
At around 1.30am, Gardaí received a report of a suspicious car.
Officers stopped and searched the car, and discovered a suspected handgun and a jerry can of petrol.
The car was also found to be using false registration plates.
The man was arrested at the scene and is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning.
