Mallow is trialling an innovative new measure to encourage locals and visitors to the town.

Lana O'Connor has this report for RedFM News:

"The initiative, called 'Feet on the Street - Mallow', will see Thomas Davis Street closed to traffic from 2.00 to 7pm every Saturday during the 6 week trial period.

This Saturday, the street will have live music with local businesses being encouraged to use the street to their advantage including by providing outdoor dining.

The County Council say the aim is to entice people to spend more time in the town centre and support local retailers, restaurants, cafes and bars.

The council will be assessing the impact on the town's businesses, traffic flow and public.

The closure operates from the O'Brien Street junction with Thomas Davis Street to the Clock Tower.

The street reopens to traffic at 7.00pm each Saturday evening.
