Listeners are being asked to donate old or unwanted bikes to the 'Bikes For Africa' Project.

The project collects bikes, which are in reasonable condition, for both primary and secondary school students.

Cork City Rotary Club, in conjunction with Cork City Council, will accept the donations at the Civic Amenity Site on the Kinsale Road.

The bikes are refurbished and then shipped to Gambia in Africa, where they are given to school-going children.

The project will continue to operate until it reaches its target of 600 donations.

Speaking to RedFM News, Mary Long, President of Douglas Rotary Club said the donations are the difference between the pupils accessing an education and not:

"The project will help the children in Gambia enormously. It will be the difference between getting an education, and not getting an education."
