The long stay mental health facility in Midleton is due to be closed, however residents and their families have opposed the move.

Some of the remaining residents have lived at the centre for up to 20 years, with family members saying they fear moving residents to other facilities will have a negative impact on their mental health.

They are calling for the centre to be refurbished and say the closure would leave the entire of East Cork without a 24/7 mental health service.

The committee previously discussed the petition to keep the centre open in July and are due to hear a response to the petition from the Chief Officer of Cork Kerry Community Healthcare.
