Multiple homes that are suitable for long term rent in Cork are being leased out for short stay holiday makers.
That's according to the national housing charity, Threshold, who say there were over 1,200 properties available for short-term rent in Cork in December 2021 compared to just 73 *long term rental properties listed this month.
The organsation say that just 36 of those long term rental properties cost under 1,500 euro each month.
Speaking to RedFM News, Threshold's Service Manager in Cork, Edel Conlon says the situation is leading people that are unable to find a suitable home to rent to be placed in emergency accommodation:
"In the last few months we've seen an increase in the number of tenants who have received notices of termination, approximately 50% of those notices are valid, which will mean that people have to vacate their homes and find alternative accommodation but unfortunately there is very little property available across the city and county at an affordable rent, and in some cases, some families will end up having to present to Cork city or county council for emergency accommodation."
