The organisers of the Cork Jazz Festival confirmed last night that it will return for the October Bank holiday after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Inquiries for hotel rooms for the 22nd to the 25th of October are already being dealt with at hotels across the city, while pubs, cafes and restaurants will also see trade increase significantly.

The final remaining Covid restrictions are due to be dropped on the first day of the festival meaning venues will be allowed to operate at full capacity with no social distancing.

Speaking to RedFM News, General Manager of the Metropole Hotel Roger Russell says it will be a fantastic shot in the arm for Cork:

"Hopefully it will bring more people from the domestic market into Cork- people down from Dublin and Waterford and Kerry and Kilkenny and Galway down to Cork. And it will be the first festival since the restrictions have been lifted as well, and it's I think it's fitting that the restrictions are lifted on the very day, which is the first day of the Cork Jazz Festival so I think that that's very important as well."
