Cork will come alive this weekend with the sound of jazz and big brass bands as the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is back.
The festival, the first big festival to be hosted in Ireland in 18 months, has been long awaited and is seen as a much needed boost to the tourism sector as it's expected to generate up to 25 million euro for the local economy.
The heart of the festival is at the Metropole where the famous Festival Club is hosted and this will be home to free jazz shows for all the family on Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoons.

Fiona Collins of the Cork Jazz Festival Committee told RedFM News that the jazz will create a buzz in the city that we haven't seen for some time:
"There's always a sense of atmosphere around Cork over the jazz weekend, and you can never, well at least I can never put my finger on what it exactly is; but there's this like a sense of excitement, there's just this buzz around the city and I have yet to find it any other weekend.
There it's just that excitement around the city, it's almost like whoa, what's happening, what are you doing, where can we go. There is a sense of that around the city over the weekend and I just love it."
Cork's RedFM, as proud media partners, will broadcast live from the heart of the Festival at The Metropole Hotel with Dave Mac's Drive live from 4pm today and Izzy on The Saturday Afternoon Show from 2pm and The Big Red Bus will be in the city centre over the weekend.
