Cork Chamber say its a key infrastructural asset for facilitating safer travel and enabling the Port of Cork’s development

The motorway was given the green light by An Bord Pleanála last year however residents in the area, represented by the M28 steering group, raised concerns about the impact the planned infrastructure would have on their quality of life due to increased noise and air pollution as well as traffic congestion.

Yesterday the High Court refused the M28 steering group leave to take their case against the planning decision for the motorway to the Court of Appeal.

Speaking to RedFM News Gerard Harrington Chairman of the M28 Steering group says they're disappointed by this latest development but their fight isn't over, and they're hoping to take the case to the Supreme Court:

"Most of the cases that we had wasn't actually adjudicated upon at all. We were not aggrieved by that it's just the way the system works, but we have to ask the Supreme Court to take a look at this. There are matters of human health. There are matters of environmental health, there are members of European law, and we want the Supreme Court to hear this. If the Supreme Court refuses which their entitled to do- to hear our petition- then that's the end of this."
