Wexford TD Verona Murphy says it should be a temporary measure until the barrel of oil levels out at around the 80 dollar mark, when taxes could then be reintroduced.

It's after the Government cut the excise duty on fuel on Thursday due to the spiralling prices at the pumps.

Deputy Murphy says it's hitting drivers in rural parts of the country very hard

"Fuel affects everything - it's  the clothes on your back, the food you put in your mouth, you know absolutely everything, and most of all, the petrol and diesel we put into our vehicles,  in the country and rural Ireland to get to work, and people are finding it very difficult at the minute.  I already have people in large numbers contacting my constituency offices to say that they just can't afford to go to work"
