Gas Networks Ireland has announced plans to build Ireland's first large-scale renewable gas facility in North Cork.
The company says the €30 million project will extract biomethane from farm and food waste and inject in into the national grid.
Construction is to begin in Mitchelstown next summer, and once complete, it will have enough capacity to meet the requirements of up to 64,000 homes.
