Garda remains in critical condition following Youghal crash

A Garda is in a critical condition in hospital this morning after a crash involving a Garda car in Youghal.

It was hit by another car at the Youghal bypass.

The unmarked Garda patrol car was helping a broken down car on the N25, at the bypass when it was struck, shortly before 7 o'clock yesterday evening.

A Garda suffered serious injuries and has been brought to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition this morning.

The driver of the other car is being treated for non-life threatening injuries in the same hospital.

The Youghal bypass on the N25 will remain closed until around midday today, to allow the Garda forensic collision investigation to take place.

Local traffic will be detoured through Youghal town and traffic traveling from Wexford are encouraged to use the N72 Dungarvan to Fermoy Road to go to Cork City.

In a statement to RedFM news Gardaí say they are are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Youghal bypass N25 from 6.30pm to 7pm on Sunday evening 13th November, 2022 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
