A series of fundraisers, which were organised in memory of a 19-year-old man from Glengarriff, has raised more than €29,000 for the Irish Community Air Ambulance.

Tadhg Murphy, an apprentice plumber, lost his life in a car accident on the 3rd August last year.

Tadhg's family organised a number of fundraisers during the August Bank Holiday weekend to thank the emergency services who worked to help Tadhg and to mark his first anniversary.

A cheque for €29,156 was presented to the Irish Community Air Ambulance in Glengarriff on Saturday.

The money raised is expected to fund at least eight missions, which cost an average of €3,500 each.

The Irish Community Air Ambulance has responded to more than 1,000 incidents from its base in Rathcoole since it was established in July 2019, and relies entirely on fundraising.
