The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien has approved funding of just over €25 million for 337 new affordable homes in Co. Cork under the Affordable Housing Fund and Housing For All.

Housing for All represents the most significant and comprehensive housing plan and it is backed by €4 billion annually.

National affordable housing delivery targets were published in Housing for All for 2022 – 2030. Overall targets to 2030 include 54,000 affordable housing units; 36,000 of which will be affordable purchase homes, with the remaining 18,000 to be cost rental units.

Over 100 new purchase homes will be available in Mallow, Kinsale, and Clonakilty, and 60 new rental homes will be available in Carrigaline.

Commenting, Minister O’Brien said:

“I am delighted to approve this significant funding today which will result in more than 300 new affordable homes in Co. Cork, the first of which will be delivered next year. I visited Co. Cork recently and I have to commend the progressive Executives and Elected Members in both the City and County Councils who are continuously seeking opportunities for new homes across the county”.

“Government are very much aware of the need to significantly increase our supply of all types of housing – social housing, affordable housing, cost rental and indeed private housing. We have a plan, it’s beginning to take hold, and we will continue to use every tool in our armoury to provide much needed homes for our people,” he concluded.
