The final preparations are being made in the city centre for this years St Patrick's Day Parade.

Over 2,500 performers including Massachusetts State Troopers and groups from Philadelphia and Oklahoma will set off from the South Mall at 1pm and make their way along Grand Parade, Patrick's Street and Merchant's Quay.

Arts groups from across the country will bring large floats, while serving and retired Gardaí will also march to mark the centenary of the foundation of An Garda Siochána.

RedFM is proud media sponsor of today's parade and our newest presenter Rob Heffernan will be MC'ing.

Speaking to RedFM News, event manager for the City Council Trish Murphy is encouraging people to use public transport:

"We'd encourage everybody to check out our website for traffic restrictions, encouraging people to park and ride in to the city centre where possible, as there will be a large number of street closures to facilitate the parade, as well as the parade there's other programmes and activities happening over the bank holiday weekend, through our cultural partners throughout the city. Again best to check out our website has a full list of what's happening."
