Fermoy Educate Together National School is a health and safety hazard for children.

That's according to the school principal who is calling on The Department of Education to provide more space for 96 students enrolled for next September.

The school says it currently shares it's building and outside space with the Education Training Board as well as the local rowing club.

Speaking to RedFM News, Principal of Fermoy Educate Together National School Toni Maguire says emergency exits are currently blocked off because classrooms are too cramped:

"They have no space to move for health and safety trying to get access to the fire doors and evacuate people in an emergency, it's just not acceptable. They can first and second class the tables are in front of the fire exit door for children would have to climb over the table has to be moved for the children to get out the emergency exit."
