A City centre food bank say they are seeing a huge demand for their services as the cost of living crisis continues to grip hard-pressed families.

448 families have registered with Feed Cork in the first half of this year, compared to 480 families during the entire of the last year.

The charity close to the bus station say the sudden rise in the number of new people seeking help could put strain on their resources in the future.

Speaking to RedFM News, Emma Byrd from Feed Cork says they are seeing a lot of people looking for help for the first time:

"It's a very daunting, frightening experience, really the fact that they have to make that call at all. Our role as volunteers here would be to make them feel as welcome as possible and experience a dignified experience coming into the food bank. Those who have come to the door for the first time, they would be very quiet not knowing what to expect, by the time they leave it's been such a positive experience."
