A Cork IFA member says farmers are seriously concerned about how they are portrayed by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The two groups are due to hold talks next week after the EPA deleted a tweet calling on people to eat less meat.

The tweet encouraged people to "be more adventurous" by trying "veggie recipies" and advised people to reduce their red meat consumption slowly.

Media Minister Catherine Martin said the "science is clear" about the environmental impact of meat production but also said that she understood why the tweet had angered farmers.

Speaking to RedFM News, Bandon farmer and member of the IFA's Environmental Committee John Murphy says they feel that the EPA has been targeting farmers for a long time

"The issues of sampling process that they use to test water, the timing of it, the way they present their reports. And I suppose overall,  we feel that their narrative has been against farming. This is  just another issue where they suddenly decide they're going to give people advice on dietary matters when they don't have any brief or competency in it"
