Engineers are carrying out a full assessment of Cork's South Gate Bridge after a section of wall adjoining it collapsed into the river.
It's the third time the quayside wall has collapsed this year.
Cork City fire brigade responded to the incident at lunchtime yesterday, when 3 square metres of the quayside wall collapsed into the water.
The bridge was closed for a time, and cars in a nearby car park were moved from the affected area,
No one was injured in the incident, and the bridge has reopened to vehicles.
However the footpath remains closed pending an assessment by Cork City Council engineers.
South gate bridge is one of the oldest bridges in Cork, with the original structure dating back to the early 18th century.
