Residents from Midleton and East Cork will travel to the Dáil today to present a petition with over 14,000 signatures calling for urgent flood prevention measures to be put in place.
Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged when floods caused by heavy rain during Storm Babet devastated the area last October.
It's understood that it will take two years to fix roads and bridges in Cork and the overall repairs could cost up to 75 million euro.
Secretary of the Midleton and East Cork Flood Protection Group Caroline Leahy says something needs to be done before homes and businesses flood again:
"We're looking for interim measures in the meantime, while they're working on the big sun, so to speak. There's a number of things that OPW and council can be doing to protect our homes and businesses like building embankments, providing flood barriers to homes and businesses are affected, you know early warning systems."
