Drivers are being warning of hazardous conditions on the roads this morning due to snow and ice.

A Status Yellow alert came into effect last night for the entire country, with many areas experiencing showers of hail, sleet and snow overnight.

Met Eireann says the warning's due to expire at midday.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says anyone heading out this morning will need to wrap up well.

"A very cold morning this morning, and some areas will see snow and more snow showers across the morning leading to some very treacherous conditions.

"It will vary from one location to another, so when people set off they may not have snow where they are but vy the time they hit the road they could hit snow and some icy conditions also.

"It will be bitterly cold with a strong breeze."
