Cork County Council crews have been on standby throughout the night and across the morning with sandbags deployed and pumps in operation across known flood risk areas.
River levels are also being monitored with flood barriers erected in Mallow and Fermoy yesterday.
The Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team and Crisis Management Team are meeting this morning and say this stage the worst affected area in the county is Bantry.
23 premises were hit by flooding this morning at high tide with the Council warning that while high tide has passed, the tide is likely to remain high for a number of hours due to the storm and wave action.
Speaking to RedFM News Padraig Barrett Director of Service Roads with the County Council says issues such as fallen trees, flooding or road damaged should be reported to them.
"Storm Barra has been making its presence felt throughout Cork county all morning and will o until 9pm tonight.
"People should avoid unnecessary journeys and stay at home where possible.
"Call 021 4276891 for Cork County Council emergencies, and outside of office hours after 5 this evening to call 021 4800048 to report issues such as fallen trees, and follow Cork County Council on social media for further updates."
