A County Councillor says she may have to consider whether or not to allow her children cycle on the road after her son was injured when he was forced off the road by a driver.
Marcia D'Alton was cycling with her two children the Strand Road in Monkstown on Monday when her ten year old son, who was wearing a helmet and high visability vest, was pushed up on the kerb, fell off his bike and hit his head off a wall.
Cllr D'Alton says her son was badly shaken by the incident, which she will be talking to Gardaí about today.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr D'Alton says her son had a lucky escape.
"We found him on the side of the road on the footpath with his helmet in his hand, and he was crying.
"The car had pushed him into the curb, squashed him in to the extend that he had nowhere to go but up on the footpath, he couldn't stop, crashed into a wall and hit his head off the wall, a boundary wall of a house.
"The car had driven off.
"Obviously we picked up and checked him out and he was grazed and bruised, his head was sore where he banged it.
"Had he not he would have been in quite considerable trouble I suspect, and we're very very lucky that he came out of it as he did."
