Cork City Councillors have defeated a motion calling on the government to hold an emergency budget.

It follows a cost of living protest held outside City Hall yesterday evening.

10 voted against Sinn Fein's motion, 9 for and there were three abstentions.

The Government have rejected calls for a mini-budget and said they have already spent €2.4 billion on a range of measures including reducing excise duty on fuel and cutting the cost of public transport.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has described Budget 2023 as a 'cost of living' budget with measures to combat the cost of household bills, childcare and public transport.
