A cost of living protest march is taking place in the city centre later this afternoon.

The event is organised by the Cost of Living Campaign and will start on Grand Parade at 2pm.

Organisers are calling for energy prices to be reduced and capped, the introduction of price controls on food, and rent cuts and freezes…

They also want pay increases for workers.

Traffic restrictions will be in place while the protest is underway and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Speaking to RedFM News, one of the organisers of the protest TD Mick Barry is encouraging anyone who has been impacted by the rising cost of living to join the protest:

"People feel that the energy providers have had their say, that the big landlords have had their say, and that now it's time for the ordinary people, the person with the job, the person who's trying to survive on benefits, the person who's paying out a second mortgage on childcare, now is our time, now is their time to raise their voices and let their voices be heard".
