Bus Éireann has celebrated its employees’ achievements in 2022 at the regional annual GEM (‘Go the Extra Mile’) Awards, which recognise excellent customer service, community impact, performance and forward-thinking.
Awards were issued in a number of different categories including Craftworker of the Year, Foreman of the Year, Clerical Employee of the Year and Team of the Year.
Bus Éireann’s Cork team was celebrated, with Robert Roche named Engineering Operative of the Year, Gordon Frost as Executive of the Year, Kieran Lynch as Foreman of the Year, Liz O’Donovan as Clerical Employee of the Year and Michael Nolan as Craftworker of the Year.
Kieran Lynch was commended for his outstanding performance and was praised for his ability to lead and respect his team. Michael Nolan was praised for the excellent quality of his work and his collaborative abilities with colleagues. Liz O’Donovan was recognised for her forty years’ service to Bus Éireann, her enthusiasm, dedication and forward-thinking ensuring she is always ‘going that extra mile’ for customers and colleagues alike.
Colin McIntrye, Sean O'Sullivan, Stephen Wrenn, Eilish Hurley and Denis McCarthy were named Team of the Year for their excellent performance throughout the year.

As a team, they exemplify Bus Éireann’s core values, their professionalism, commitment and collaboration serves as an example to all of us.”

For Bus Éireann’s Southern region, Cork nominees won six awards in total.

Winners of each region will go forward to the Bus Éireann National GEM awards on the 8 December in Dublin.
According to a KPMG report last year, Bus Éireann contributes €40 million to the Cork economy, employing 570 people who live in County Cork, facilitating almost 16 million passenger journeys on the Cork city bus service in 2019 and transporting 16,000 students on school transport in Cork each school day.
