Cork Simon says the lack of housing is causing more people to turn to them for help

It comes as over one thousand social houses in the city are stalled at different stages of planning processes.

The houses include over 100 homes in both Blackpool and Knocknaheeny as well as nine homes on Glen Ryan Road that were approved in 2019.

The charity which helps people out of homelessness says the amount of adults using emergency accommodation in Cork for the past the year hasn't dropped below 500.

Speaking to RedFM News, Paul Sheehan of Cork Simon says more houses need to be built

" We've seen an unprecedented increase in the number of people turning to us for us help over the last 12 months. We saw that beginning to increase, very slowly but surely after the Covid lockdowns and when the various moratoriums on rent increases and evictions into homelessness were lifted. And it's an increase that has continued right throughout since and even to this day"
