AA Ireland has urged drivers here in Cork to exercise additional caution when travelling over the next 24 hours, after significant flooding in some areas following heavy rainfall earlier today.
Motorists are being encouraged to reduce their speed, allow extra distance between themselves and other road users, and to be on the lookout for cyclists and pedestrians who may be blown off course by gusts of wind.
A number of breakdowns have been reported particularly in areas affected by flooding. AA Ireland say people should only attempt to drive through flood water if they are sure of how deep it is and, if their car does break-down the advise is to avoid opening the bonnet while waiting for assistance to avoid the electrics getting wet.
