A Cork hotelier has insisted that Irish hotels are good value for money.

He was responding to reports that Fáilte Ireland CEO Paul Kelly has written to hoteliers accusing them of causing reputational damage to the industry - by charging sky-high prices for hotel rooms "to squeeze the last few euros" out of consumers.

Kelly is warning that price-hikes would risk reputational damage - and take Irish tourism decades to recover.

Yesterday, Tánaiste disagrees with Fáilte Ireland, claiming Irish hotels are not increasing their prices unreasonably.

Speaking to RedFM News, Joe Kennedy, Chairman of the Irish Hotels Federation says that Irish hotels have an international reputation for value:

"I think Ireland has done a tremendous job this year in rebuilding our tourism brands. There's no doubt about it. We want to protect the industry and work together. Ireland is a fantastic place to travel. To be fair, Ireland is still reasonably priced. There's lots of statistics out there from European cities that Ireland is seen very favourably as a price destination".
