A Cork GP says people delaying starting a family is leading to reduced family sizes.
One third of women say they would delay starting a family until they have reached certain financial or career goals according to an Ipsos survey.
Speaking to RedFM News, Blackpool GP Dr. John Sheehan says our birth rate is decreasing dramatically as the average family now includes 2 children:
"The average age of people starting family now that has been steadily increasing over the last 15 years. That also leads to smaller family sizes if people are starting their families later. We had the highest birthrate in Europe, we still have but we're decreasing. We're seeing that reflected now in the population stats where the number of people starting primary school is due to drop dramatically over the next few years."
